The SHED: Ground Force Helps Build A Hub for Art & Culture

New York City is an ever-growing, evolving, and dynamic city that is buzzing even more with the new addition of the Hudson Yards. Ground Force is thrilled to have been apart of one of the latest projects as a part of this build.

The city has spent over $20 billion to transfer this area into a “city within a city,” creating its own exciting neighborhood space. From living, working, shopping, outdoor parks, eating and entertainment, there is no shortage of stimulation, and The Shed adds to just that.

The Shed is a contemporary indoor and outdoor performing arts center located in the middle of the Hudson Yards. It’s unique features go far beyond just its visual aesthetics. The way the building transforms into an outdoor space is truly innovative. The entire shell of the structure is set on tracks which enables it to slide open and closed. A sight to see for all who gather to see its marvel.

The designers, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Lead Architect and Rockwell Group Collaborating Architect, set out to construct this 8 level, 200,000 square foot building back in 2015.

With a complete asset-based division, Ground Force was asked to store and deliver development materials, supports and seating for The Shed’s fabrication. A large part of our contribution was underground creating the foundation for this colossal addition to the structure.

Luckily, one of the design teams created a short video that demonstrated the entire delivery, building, and final product. The video captures our unique trucking and delivery process for this particular site throughout the project: https://www.hudsonyardsnewyork.com/discover/shed

Ground Force is excited to have been a part of building culture within the new iconic structure that is the Hudson Yards & The Shed. To learn more about our capabilities, visit www.groundforcelogisitics.com.
